FOOTBALL

TO-DAY’S MATCHES.

The matches to be played under the auspices of the Rugby Union at Victoria Domain this afternoon are of a specially interesting character, Kaiti(Jity is to meet Makauri in the senior championship competition, at 3 p.m.; and Makauri and United will try conclusions in the junior championship at i. 45 p.m. At 3 p.m., on No. 1 ground, the junior inter-club challenge match between Napier Pirates and Kaiti-City will be played.

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

TO-DAY,’S MATCHES

The second round of the Association football competition will be commenced on the Carnarvon Street ground at 2.45 p.m. to-day, when Y.M.C.A. will meet Rangers. The team to represent Y.M.C.A. will be picked from the following: Douglas, Rennie (2), Sutherland, Dempsey, Cowell, Bain, Ansell, Griffin, Dimberlime, Clarkson, Brownlee, Rewai, Patihana, Miller. Referee, Mr. Michie. All players are requested to get on the ground as early as possible, and indulge in a little practice.

A correspondent writes as follows: Your notes this morning are rather erroneous, as you state that the contest between Rangers and Y.M.C.A. is. to decide which club shall take second place in the competition. Now it is possible for. either of those clubs to win the competition yet, and I think both teams are going to do their best to win. The match on Saturday will be somewhat in the nature of a semi-final as if the Rangers lost they will be out of it and then Y.M.C.A. will meet Taruheru. The points at the close of the first round are: Taruheru: 3 wins 0 losses —6 points; Y.M.C.A.: 2 wins 1 loss—4 points; Rangers: 1 win 2 losses —2 points; Athletic: 3 losses—o points.
