HOCKEY.
GISBORNE LADIES V. “TURANGAS.” Members of the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey Club, accompanied by a number of girls of the Hastings and Gisborne High Schools, journeyed to Patutahi on Saturday, when the Gisborne Club played a match with the ladies known as the “Turangas.” The game was of a very exciting nature, and although Gisborne won by 3 goals to nil, the Turangas put up a very stubborn fight, and one of the best games of the season was played. Miss Violet Erskine scored all the goals for the town team. Mr. Olsen refereed the game in a capable manner. Before returning from Patutahi, the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. The Hastings High School girls returned' by the Tarawera last evening, and although the weather has not been propitious while they were in Gisborne, they were all loud in their praises, of the pleasant time they had here. AUCKLAND DEFEATS THAMES. [Pee Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Sept. 12. In the hockey match, Auckland and Thames, played on Saturday, Auckland won by four goals to one.
