HARBOR BOARD.
ADJODENED MEETING.
An adjourned meeting of the Harbor Board was held yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs. John Townley (chairman), J. B. Kells, F. Harris, C. J. Parker, and Hon. Captain Tucker M.L.C. The business of the meeting was the consideration of the tenders which had been received for the erection of a cottage at the Tuahine lighthouse, and for the supply of hopper barges for use with the new dredge “Maui.” For the former the following tenders were received: Messrs. O’Dwyer Bros. £l7O, A. MoDuff £139 10s, Tocknell £195, Chas. Morse £197 17s, J. Colley £l7O, Jennings and Co. £165, M. Haisman £149 10s, Evans Neild and 00. £l7l. The tender of Mr. A. MoDuff was accepted. For the supply of hopper barges the following tenders were received: Messrs. R. A. Watson, Auckland, (kaun) £2099 6s, Black Bros. Gisborne, £2975; F. Overton, Gisborne, (kauri) £2050, (Oregon pine) £I9OO. The advice of Mr. L. G. P. Spencer was sought as to the respective merits of kauri and Oregon pine timber, and on his recommendation it was decided that Mr. Overton’s tender for kauri be accepted. . ■ , ~ , , The Hon. Captain Tucker dissented, declaring in favor of Oregon pine timber especially when sheathed with totara as provided for in the specifications.
