THE RABBIT INVASION.
ACTION BY COOK COUNTY COUNCIL. The threatened invasion of this district by rabbits from the Hawke’s Bay district was the subject of mention at the meeting of the Cook County Council yesterday. The matter was brought up by Cr. Sherratt, who declared that, wiiihout question, the matter was becoming most serious. Rabbits were coming in along the stock track, from Hawke’s Bay, and he felt that the Council should take some steps, if not collectively, at least individually, to attempt to deal with the pest. Mr. W. D. Lysnar had been most energetic in the matter, and they should assist him by backing up his efforts. The Chairman (Hon. Capt, Tucker) reminded Councillors that a Rabbit Board was in coruso of formation, and after other Councillors had expressed their realisation of the seriousness of the position, it was decided to communicate with the Inspector for tho Hawke’s Bay district, urging that official to do all he could to cope with the threatened incursion until the establishment of the Rabbit Board.
