COMMERCIAL.
HORSE SALES. Only a small yarding of 20 horses came to hand at Messrs. Williams and Kettle’s weekly horse sale on Saturday morning. Hacks sold from £3 to £7, and harness horses from £6 10s to £lO 15s.
PRODUCE SALES. Messrs F. S. Malcolm and Co. report the following prices obtained at their weekly produce sale on Saturday:—Ducks 2s 3d to 2s 6d, fowls 2s to 2s 6d, butter 9d and lOd lb, eggs 9d and iod doz, maize 3s 6d bushel, potatoes 10s 6d to 12s 6d sack, apples 14s case, lemons 5d and 6d doz, small vegetables as usual. , During the week Messrs Malcolm and Co. held two successflul furniture sales on behalf of Mrs. Morgan, Childers Road, and Mr. Richardson, Cobden Street.
BUTTER FOR LONDON
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Paparoa, which sailed for" London direct to-day is taking 2857 boxes of butter from Auckland. This is the second shipment from this port this season, a previous shipment of 1221 boxes having ben made. The two corresponding shipments last year were 229 boxes on September 7, and 1547 on September 26. This year, therefore, 4078 boxes have been sent away against 1776 to the corresponding date of the previous year.
' LONDON, WOOL SALES
United Pkkbb Association— Coi-yiugiit LONDON, Sept. 24. The wool sales included fleeces of the following brands: Gear lOjjd, Auburn 20|d, Double Hill 22d, Sesbama 23Jd. The oat market is quiet. Gartons sold at 24s 6d to 265, and sparrowbills at 24s to 255; La Plata, January to February shipment at 14s 9d. At the Wool sales there was keen competition, prices being fully maintained. American buyers are active.
Messrs. Williams and_ Kettle, Ltd., have received the following information by cable from their London. agents regarding the wool sales which opened on the 21st inst.: “The market opened with a good attendance of buyers and keen competition for wools both for Home consumption and export. There is but poor selection of wools offering. Prices: Greasy, fine wools, 10 per cent, advance; greasy, medium, coarse 12 h per cent, advance ; slipe, fine wool, 10 per cent, advanco. These advances are upon the closing rates of last sale (July 23rd.), which are as follows: —Bine Is 2*d to Is 3*d; fine crossbred Is OJd; medium, coarse crossbred and coarse crossbred Bjd.
