A MAGNETIC STORM

United Priehs Association—rTorYiuutit LONDON, Sept. 26 v A magnetic storm rendered most of the telegraphic lines in Great Britain and America useless for two hours after mid-day on Saturday. It is believed to be connected with an Aurora Borealis.

MELBOURNE, Sept. 27. The Aurora Australis was seen in various parte of the State.

(Received September 27, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 27.

The observatory at Cheltenham, Maryland, recorded on Saturday the severest magnetic storm since the observatory was founded. The magnets moved beyond the limits of the record sheets. SEEN IN COOK STRAIT. [Per Press Association,'! Wj—LINGTON, Sept. 27. _ The Aurora Australis mentioned in the cables was also seen in Cook Strait on Sunday morning. Mr. S. Thornton, a passenger bv the Regulus, says that the whole of the eastern and southern sky at 4.15 -a.m. wa s lighted up by magnificent streamers lasting until 4.35. The display began at 1.30. The captain of the Regulus says that he never saw such a splendid exhibition, and that any brilliant display is most unusual in these latitudes.
