RAILWAY ENGINES.

CHRISTCHURCH FIRM WITHDRAWS ITS TENDER.

[Pkii Pkkss Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 27. With reference to a Wellington telegram stating that Scott Bros., of this city, had decided not to go on with the construction of certain railway engines for which they were tile successful tenderers, Mr. Geo. Scott states-that, although a fortnight has elapsed since the firm’s tender was accepted, they had not yet accepted official intimation of its acceptance. In the meantime the firm had accepted other contracts, which would take several months to fulfil, and would make it impossible for them to undertake the Government contract. In addition, the firm have decided to go in for two or three manufacturers’ lines which will be standard work for the employees of the firm. In these circumstances their tender for railway locomotives had been withdrawn.
