TRADE WITH NEW HEBRIDES

A CHANCE FOR NEW ZEALAND

[Pen Piiess Association.] AUCKLAND, Sept. 27

Commander Glossop, of H.M.S. Prometheus, recently remarked, in the course of an interview in Auckland, that there were big possibiiites of opening up trade between the New Hebrides and New Zealand. Mr. J. W. Kerr, owner of the ship Countess of Ranfurly, which trades between Sydney and Vila (New Hebrides) writes from Sydney to b, friend in Auckland in support of* Commander Glossop’s statement, and says: “If New Zealand really wants to have a look in at the New Hebrides and New Caledonia trade, she could not get a better time than the present to chip in and get part of it. I believe the Government .authorities would assist such a proposition at the island end for all they were worth. They arc not quite satisfied with Australia in the mail matter, and also think the Commonwealth is not doing all it should to help British settlers in the New Hebrides.”
