ENTERTAINMENTS

ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY’S CONCERT

The concert to be given by the Gisborne Orchestral Society to-night in His Majesty’s Theatre, in compliment to the professional members of the Society, should attract a very large audience, if only because of the excellence of the programme, which promises a musical treat of the most enjoyable kind. The orchestral numbers are to consist of the gems of the programmes given by the Society this and last season. The instrumental solos should prove a special attraction. Mr. M. Vita is to play a flute solo, Briccialdi’s "II Vento” —John Lemoinne’s “star” solo—and Mr. A. Warnecke wilt give a violin solo, De Beriot’s “6tli Aria Varie.” The vocalists are to be Mrs. E. P. Wilson and Mr. Johnston Brown, and the concert will afford the last opportunity of hearing these artists in Gisborne. By request. Mrs. Wilson will sing the air “Dilette Amice,” from Verdi’s “Sicilian Vespers,” with full orchestral accompaniment. A final rehearsal of the orchestra was held yesterday evening, when there was a full attendance. At the conclusion of the practice, the musical director, Mr. M. L. Foster, expressed himself as well satisfied with the rehearsal. The members of the Society hope to see a large attendance to-night, in order to show, in a practical manner, appreciation of the professional musicians who have freely given their services to the Society. ~ The seat plan is .open at Mr. Miller’s.

PATHE PICTURES. A fairly large number of people were attracted to His Majesty’s Theatre last night to witness the performance pf the Patch pictures. Hearty rounds of applause testified to the genuine approval of those present. .. , , The pictures will-be shown again tomorrow night, ivhen the officers ana men of H.M.S. Prometheus will be the guests of the management.
