EXPERIENCES IN AFRICA AND EUROPE. -

United Press Association —Copyright

LONDON, Sept. 27

General Botha states that in South Africa the Northern light s were seen at Petersburg. The Aurora was seen in France and Italy. There were no auroral manifestations in Britain. The submarine cables did not suffer, though the connecting land wires were disturbed. There were many outbreaks of fire in telegraph offices in Scandanavia and Northern Germany, due to the burning of the coverings of the wires.

TELEGRAPHIC TROUBLE IN AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE, Sept. 28. Saturday’s magnetic disturbance caused considerable trouble with the telegraph lines, and also to some extent affected the cable service. In messages from Cocos Islands strokes which are usually horizontal were given a peculiar undulating appearance. The Government astronomer states that the storm was the most severe in his experience. It lasted 24 hours. The oscillations recorded on the instrument went over the side of the recording paper.
