AN EX-GISBORNE OARSMAN

Mr. D. E. Dustin, who is now residing at Palmerston North; and who. a couple of seasons ago, took such a prominent part in rowing matters in Gisborne, has achieved the proud distinction of parenthood. A Palmerston paper announces the birth, to Mrs. Dustin, of twin boys. Both mother and children are reported to be doing well.

Mr. Dick Arnst, the champion scullor, purposes going to early next month, and staying there for about a month to train for the rowing handicap to be rowed on the Manawatu nver at Foxton in December. While the champion is in Nelson the possibility of having the next championship race held there will be fully discussed. Matters have already advanced to the extent that the necessary backing in the way of stake money can be found m Nelson. NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR ASSOCIATION.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 28. 4.t a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Association, a ruling was given on a question raised by the Southland Association—viz., Could a maiden oarsman win a junior race and row as a maiden later on the same day, or subsequent day to which the maiden race may he postponed? The Council, in accordance with the definition of a maiden oarsman,. rules that immediately a man wins a junior race he is ineligible to compete as a maiden. Several applications Irom clubs for "alteration of colors'' were held over until next meeting. The revised rules of the Southland Association were approved, to their being in acordance with the New Zealand A.R.A. rules. A general discussion took place on the various motions on the order paper for the annual meeting on 2nd prox., and it was also mentioned ns being advisable that the selection of the crew to represent New Zealand in the champion interstate four-oared race at Hobart in February next should be left to the incoming Council.
