Sir John Knill was elected Lord Mayor of London, after giving satisfactory assurances, in reply to a question, not to propose the toast of the Pope before that of the King on ceremonial occasions, and to allow no denomiational considerations to affect Mansion House charities during his year of office. He also promised to attend St. Paul’s and other churches, according to ancient custom, when the Sovereign is present. >
