ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A DRIVER FOUND UNCONSCIOUS
[Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 30. William Moore, a man aged about 50, employed by Mr. E. R. Sunderland, baker, as a driver, was found lying by his cart in Shirley road, Shirley, at 10.5 this morning in an unconscious condition. Moore was removed to a neighboring house, where he died shortly afterwards. The cause of death is not known.
THE ROSLYN TRAM FATALITY.
DUNEDIN, Sept. 30
The inquest into the circumstances surrounding the accident on the Roslyn tramline on September 4. which resulted in the death of a child named Wilhelmina Hennessy on the 10th inst., concluded yesterday. The driver and conductor of the car which ran into the child refused to give evidence when called by the police. The jury returned a verdict that death was caused by shock following an accident and amputation of a leg, which was rendered necessary to prevent death from gangrene. Tlie jury expressed the opinion that the evidence produced did not enable it to say whether or not there was negligence on the part of the officials in charge of the car. The jury added riders to the effect that- the attention of the proper authorities should be called to tlie want of protection to lire and limb on present cable cars in oases of accident, and that no persons should be allowed to stand on the front compartment of any car or on. the outside platforms, or, at any rate, forward of the gripman. ______
