VICAR ASSAULTED.

TARRED BY PARISHIONERS. Urn'.ed Press Association— Copyright. LONDON, Sept. 29. A number of masked men waylaid John Lax, vicar of Stanmore, Westmoreland, and his school mistress. The man was bound, gagged, and tarred, and compelled to read a mock service. Subsequently eight young parishioners were arrested and fined £5. The cross-examination of witnesses showed that the vicar was a married man, and it was suggested that he had certain relations with the school mistress.
