BLESSING FROM THE POPE.
United Press Association —Copyright. SYDNEY, Sept. 30. The Pope has sent his blessing to the Catholic Congress. AN OBJECTION TO v CARLYLE'S “HERO WORSHIP.” (Received September 30, 11.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 30. Archbishop Kelly, >at the Catholic congress, entered a strong protest against the Educational Department authorising the use in the training colleges of Carlyle’s “Heroes and Hero Worship, and The Hero in History,” as a text book, because of the passage in which John Knox contemptuously refused to worship the image of the Virgin Mother. Mr. Mahon, mmeber of the Federal Parliament, said that it was an outrage on the Catholic community that their money should be used for disseminating lies. The statement in the book was a libel on one of their dearest doctrines. He hoped that the community would not rest until the book had been withdrawn by tbe Department, and an apology made to the Catholic people.
