THE BISHOP OF WAIAPU.
CONGRATULATIONS FROAI GISBORNE.
When the result of the election to the Bishopric of Waiapu was announced, His Worship the Mayo r forwarded the following telegram to the Bishopelect:—“Veil. Archdeacon AverilJ, St. Michael’s, Christchurch. On behalf of the Borough of Gisborne, I extend to you its most hearty congratulations on your appointment as Bishop of the Anglican Church for the bishopric Avhich includes this town, and avg all trust your good offices will be productive of much good in elevating the channel of thought and action of both your laity and clergy. There are great possibilities in your future work, and we hope you Avill he granted health and strength to enable you to fulfil your great trust. —W. Douglas Lysnar, Mayor.” In response to the above, His Worship has received the following letter from Archdeacon Averill: —“Dear Sir, —I beg to thank you very sincerely for the kind congratulations and good wishes conveyed to me by your telegram on behalf of the Borough of Gisborne. I shall look forward to visiting your town as soon as possible, and making your acquaintance. I realise the great and growing importance of the district which you represent, and I trust that I may be allowed to help in some way towards keeping up that standard of righteousness by which alone a strong and reliable community or nation can be built up. Believe me, Mr. Mayor, with many thanks, yours sincerely, A. W. AA-er-ill.”
