BOWLING.

TURANGANUI CLUB

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club was held last evening in the Record Reign Hotel, there being present Messrs W. Brnee (president), P. E. Hal lam, J. P. Williams, M. G. Nasmith, junr, and W. 0. Sheet (secretary). Arrangements in connection with the opening of the season, which takes place on Thursday afternoon next, Oct. 7th, were discussed. It w_as resolved to issue a general invitation to local bowlers, and to forward special invitations to the officers and committee of the Gisborne Bowling Club and His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. 1). Lysnar). It was decided to commence play to 2 p.m., the official opening by the president, assisted by Mrs. Bruce, to take place at 3 o’clock. Other general arrangements for the opening were also agreed upon. It was reported that the cycling members of the club had subscribed a sura sufficient to erect a bicycle stand for the convenience of members, and that the same was being erected. It was resolved to immediately proceed with the erection of wire-netting ,on the south-western end of the club’s new green, which will later carry creepers. Mr Hallam was authorised to procure samples of the club’s colors, the_ same to lie laid before the next meeting of the committee. A number of new mats, to provide for the new rule which requires the placing of both feet on the mat, were ordered to be procured, while a donation of eight fine mats were received

from Mr J. D. Jeune, who was thanked for his liberality. The question of telephonic connection with the exchange was raised, but was deferred till next season. Application for permission to play a series of games in the “G.T. Challenge Feathers” was received, and permission was readily granted. Several small items were also dealt with, and the meeting adjourned.
