ST. HELEN’S HOSPITAL
A SATISFACTORY REPORT. rp E R Press Association.! DUNEDIN, October 2. Four years ago yesterday, the late Mr Seddon opened the &t. Helen s Hospital, and this institution has the splendid record of 745 cases to date, with only one death, and that m a ease that did not give the staff a fair chance. Miss Holford,, the matron, chatting with a reporter this morning, said that 78 of these had been back to St Helen’s a second time, and nine a third time. “In every way results are satisfactory this year,” added Miss Holford. “The health of nurses has been very good, and all who were P) esented for examination passed with credit. We have turned, out 26 nurses altogether, and now pass through eight a vear. It may be mentioned that 140 cases does not show the number or births. We have given up counting twins,” remarked Miss Holford and are now waiting for triplets. lhe re cord of births for one day is seven including two sets of twins, line Happened last February. In outdoor work the tally to date is 90 cases; seven a second time. The matron has had to refuse a number of applications for admission owing to want of accommodation, but the difficulty is now overcome for the management has acquired a seven-roomed cottage adjoining, an took possession to-day. Ibis will give accommodation for eight more patients.
