DEPARTURE FOR NAPIER.
Air. Richard Arnst, the champion. J sculler of the world, left for South by the s.s. Monowai last night. On Sat-1 urday he was taken for a drive in tho country, and after the performance in 1 the theatre at night ho put in an ap- | pearance for -a short time at the Rugby Union re-union, where lie was accorded an enthusiastic reception. Yesterday Mr. Arnst was the guest of His Worship the Mayor at, “Waimona,” after an enjoyable motor-car drive. Seian prior to his departure, Air. Arnst said that he was extremely gratified at tho reception accorded him in Gisborne. He commented most favorably on the hospitality shown to him, remarking that it strongly reminded him of the splendid treatment he had received in Australia. By his modest and unassuming demeanor and striking nersonality, Mr. Arnst made hosts of friends during his short stay in Gisborne, and' quite a little crowd gathered at the wharf last night to bid au revoir to the champion.
