FIRE.

SIX-ROOAIED HOUSE TOTALLY DESTROYED.

By an outbreak of fire, which occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning, the six-roomed house in Ormond Road, owned and aocupied by Air and Airs. Edward Ling, wa# totally destroyed, with its contents. At 2.20 a.m., Air. Ling went out to the back of the house. Prior to going he lit a candle and placed it on a small table close to the bed, and not far from the window. He was away for about ten minutes, and on his return found, tho room filled with flames. He had just time, -with the assistance of some neighbors, to get Airs. Ling out of the house, and everything, save about £5 worth of clothing, was abandoned to the fire, which quickly gutted the building. It is thought that the candle must have ignited the curtains in the room, which might have been blown towards it when the door was left open. A full muster of the Brigade, under Superintendent Townley, turned' out, but their efforts were of no avail, as when they arrived the flames had too strong a hold. The building, which was valued by Air. Ling at £250, was insured in the National Office for £l5O. and the furniture and contents, valued at £IOO, were insured in the Royal office for £SO.
