MORE IMMIGRANTS.
THE TAINUI’S PASSENGERS
[Pick Pkicsb Association. l WELLINGTON, October 4. By the s.s. Tainui to-day there arrived, amongst others, 406 passengers in the third-class. Of these 144 are assisted, 66 adults (47 women and 19 men) and 34 children are nominated by relatives in New Zealand, and 44 are travellers approved by the High Commissioner. The latter were made np of 20 women, 14 men, and 10 children. Among the passengers are 23 domestics, five farm laborers, eleven farmers, two horse-breakers, one dairyman, two ploughmen, and 22 wives (and children), who are coming out to rejoin their husbands. The capital of the newcomers ranges from £2lO to £26. Mr. Danby, chief immigration officer, informed a “Post” reporter that the immigrants are up to the average. During the voyage a married woman, suffering from consumption, died, also a four months’ old baby.
