CYCLING

NEW CLUB FORMED A preliminary meeting,, having for its object the formation of a cycling club in Gisborne was held last- night in Mr. H. Anderson’s shop in Gladstone Road. Mr. Anderson presided, and there was a fairly large attendance of cycling enthusiasts. It was decided that a club be formed, and that it be called the Britannia Cycling Club. The annual subscription was fixed at 10s 6d. The following office-bearers were elected : President, Plis "Worship the Mayor (Mr. W T . D. Lysnar); vice-presidents (1-1 gentlemen were nominated pro tern.); secretary, J. Jones: treasurer. P. Fishbach.

It was decided that the club take part in the procession on Labor Day, the members to decorate their bicycles. number of races have also been arranged for to take dace at the Domain during the afternoon. It was resolved to request the Labor Day Demonstration Committee to add a consolation race to the programme, the club to provide the prizes. This race will be open it) all members of the club other than prize-winners during the day. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Borough Council to-morrow night to ascertain the possibilties of a cycle track being prepared on the Council’s reserve in Childers Road, opposite the Victoria Domain. Some discussion took place regarding the suggestion to hold cycle races on November 9th. and it was resolved to hold such a meeting if a suitable ground be available. It is intended on that date to hold several races over varying distances, and it was announced by the chairman that a number of running races would probably take place on the same afternoon. f A room to be the headquarters of the club will be provided at Mr. Anderson’s shop, and it was decided to hold another meeting next Tuesday night NEW SOUTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIP.
