— A LARGE CONTRACT LET. I Ui-'.n Pui-’ss Association.” AUCKLAND, October 6. The contract for the first section of the Auckland and suburban drainage scheme, involving an expenditure by the Drainage Board of over £20.000 of tlie lean money raised for the purpose, was let to-day, and a meeting of the Works Committee set up to deal with the tenders. The successful tenderers were Messrs Gordon and Mays. The work has to be commenced practically at once, and to he completed in ten months. It will mean employment for that period of from 40 to 50 men. The same committee to-day decided to forthwith invite tenders for tvyo further contracts, "hamely two sections of the main sower, another big work across Hobson’s Bay to Campbell Terrace, Parnell, and also.the Arch Hill Gully branch sewer; No. 2, from the end of the City Council’s present sewer to the old abattoir site at Grey Lynn, along tho whole length of the Arch Hill Gully. With the letting of the three first contracts referred to the Board will have works in hand involving an expenditure approaching £55,000.
