In reply to a question in the Senate as to whether any steps had been taken to secure reciprocity with New Zealand, especially with the view of getting Australian fruit and wines admitted to the Dominion on more advantageous terms, the Hon. R. W. Best stated that Mr. Deakin and himself had intended to discuss the subject with Sir Joseph Ward when the latter cam© to Melbourne, but Sir Joseph’s return direct to New Zealand had prevented this. He would confer with Mr. Deakin with the view of opening negotiations.
