MATAWITERO STOCK SALES. The first of the weekly stock sales was held at Matawher'o yesterday. There was only a very small entry of both sheep and cattle, and the attendance of buyers was also small. This was to be accounted for in a certain measure by the fact that- farmers were not generally aware of the holding of the weekly sales, and also that a good many of them are busy lamb-marking. The entry on the whole sold fairly well, there being a better demand for all classes of sheep consequent doubtless on the advance in the price of wool. This was particularly noticeable in the case of hoggets, which showed an advance of 2s on previous sales. SHEEP. Only about 90 sheep were yarded, and fair prices were realised, the quality of the entry being well maintained. Not many fat sheep were offered, ewes selling at 12s 12s 3d, and 13s 9d, a nice line of 50 changing hands at the latter figure. Eleven wethers were sold at 13s id. In store sheep hoggets were a comparatively strong entry, and sold fairly well. The top price obtained was the very satisfactory figure of 13s 2d, for a lot of 65 in good condition. < Ither pent sold at 10s 3d, 10s 6d, and 11s 6d. Ewes and lambs brought up to 11s 9d, and ewes realised from 8s lOd to 11s 3d. CATTLE. About 230 head of cattle in all were yarded, steers being the predominant entry. Some fine prime bullocks, although not very heavy, changed, hands after the sale at £7 10s. Other beef bullocks sold at from £5 to £6 7s 6d, and cows realised £4 2s 6d, £4 ss. and £4 10s. There was not a strong demand for store cattle, the following being the principal sales: 20 steers at £3 7s 6d, 26 at £4 2s 6d, 29 at £5 5s (forward), 25 yearling heifers at £2, 7 dairy cows at £2 17s 6d, 4 at 32s 6d. PIGS. Pigs were not a numerous entry, but found ready sale, competition being brisk. Two porkers sold at 245, and two at 20s. while weaners, of which a number were offered, realised from 7s 6d to 11s 6d. HOME MARKETS. United Press Association —Copyright.
