CRICKET.

THURSDAY COMPETITION. The cricket season was opened yesterday, when the opening games in the first round of the Thursday championship were commenced. Te Rau and Alhambra met at Victoria Domain, and United and Y.M.C.A. journeyed out to try conclusions at the Taruheru ground. TE ItAU v. ALHAMBRA. Alhambra won the toss, and decided to bat. They were not all dismissed until the total reached 117, two men being absent. Te Ran on going to the wickets failed badly against the bowling of Olsen and Babbs, the whole team being dismissed for 24 runs.
