UNUSUAL ACTIVITY

The geysers at Wliakare ware w a were last week exceptionally active (says the “Hot Lakes Chronicle”), and large numbers of visitors daily visited the Government reserve. JJp till Wednesday afternoon of last week Waikorohihi had attracted much attention, and one one occasion it played for over 22 hours without intermission. Soon after Waikorohihi ceasetl Pohutu’s Cauldron (Te Horn) became active, sending up good shots of from 20 to 30 feet at frequent intervals. Poliutu geyser commenced to play at 3.27 p.m. on the Wednesday, and continued active for an hour. Several tourists who we're m the reserve at the time were delighted with these thermal eruptions. On Thursday at three p.m., Wairoa geyser was called upon to play, the necessary soap being applied by a member of a visiting party. AVithin. 16 minutes from the time of the application of the soap, Wairoa. responded, sending a column of steaming water to a lie i glit of about 120 ft, to the wonder and delight of the 250 people present. Wairoa continued in a state of eruption for about 45 minutes, and as all the other geysers, with the exception of Pohutu were playing at the same time, visitors had a good view of the reserve under very favorable circumstances. Waikorohihi geyser continued to play throughout Thursday night and until 11 a.m. on Friday. The Prince of AVales’ Feather geyser was also active on Friday, while Poliutu geyser "gain gave a < isp’.ay, playing from 9.20 a.m. until 10.6 a.in.
