The rowing season openpd this afternoon in glorious weather, with a procession of boats, motor launches, etc., followed by sprint races. ! HAWKE’S BaTrOWING ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, Oct. 10. The Hawke’s Bay Rowing Association opened the season at West Shore on Saturday under most favorable conditions. The series of four-oared races was won by A. Anderson, J. Jamieson, J. Lydford and H. In a sculling race for £IOO a side on the Hunter River F. S. Hagney easily defeated B. Thoroughgood, ex-cham-pion of Australia, by, seven lengths, in 18 minutes lOsec. [Hagney is well-known in New South Waies°as a cyclist and has recently followed the example of his fellow cyclist Arnst and taken to sculling.]
