WELLINGTON DEFEATS AUCKLAND. f Pick Pit km Association.! AUCKLAND, Oct. 9. The Auckland v. Wellington representative football match, played here to-day-, attracted a crowd of nearly 4000. The weather was perfect, but not for football, the day being hot with brilliant sunshine and little wind. It was an unusual sight to see- a football crowd clothed in summer attire. The match was interesting beyond the. average, being full of incidents and exciting, rapid play. Wellington won by 22 points to 19. Tries for the visitors were obtained by Wright (3), O’Sullivan, Cross and Barber, while the latter also converted one try. Jackson kicked a goal from a mark. For Auckland Seager (2), R. Wvnyard, Dunning and Grundy scored trios, two of which were converted by W. Tyler and W. Dodward. The Auckland team included the Maori Papakura and Opae Asher. The latter’s - bumping and hurdling powers created considerable excitement during the game. The gate takings amounted to £l3O.
