BUSHFELLING ACCIDENT.
A. TRYING EXPERIENCE
A nasty accident took place in the Whatatutu district yesterday morning, the victim being a bushfaller gamed Air Bert Elliott. He was felling a tree at Okaihau Station when the falling limb struck another tree and, thus falling in an unexpected direction, pinned ElTott by the leg just above the ankle, which is badly broken in consequence. His mates quickly came to his rescue, but his plight was deplorable owing to the distance from any place where medical assistance could be obtained. However. about a dozen of the bushfeJers and other workers formed a party and set out for AVhatatutu —a ten hours’ tramp along rough bush tracks—carrying the injured man in an improvised ambulance. He was expected at Whatatutu late last night where his ankle was to be dressed by Air Al. P. Poole. He was then to be driven in a buggy by Air B. Taylor to the Gisborne Hospital which it was hoped would be reached bv about 4 a.m. this morning.
