AY HANGAR A NATIVE SCHOOL PICNIC.

YFrcm Our Own Correspondent.)

The Whangara Native school picnic took place on Saturday last in a nicely sheltered bend of the AYaiinoko River, kindly lent for the purpose by Mr Kepa Loach. Tho spot was an excellent one, having plenty open space for tile sport-loving portion of the company, whilst the loungers had ample shade under which to enjoy themselves. The outing 'is becoming 'more jxjpular every year, and on Saturday there was a larger attendance than on any former occasion. A long sports programme was got through in the course of the afternoon, every event being keenly contested in the best of spirit. Every placed competitor was presented with a handsome prize, hut the most phasing feature was that every competitor got a prize of some sort,-consequently not a single small individual was disappointed. The company were well provided for, being served with a most substantial lunch at midday, and with tea and cake before parting in the evening. There was an apparently inexhaustible supply of fruit, lollies end calces for the young, and the same were not neglected by a goofl few of the older fo’lc. The weather was perfect and everything combined to make the 1909 picnic a perfect success. Special mention should be made of the untiring efforts of tho Misses Shaw, Pakarae, Bull and Air Fraser, and of the School Committee for their successful endeavors to cater for the pleasure of the whole company. The Native clergyman made a few happy remarks in welcoming the Pakeha visitors and thanking them for their attendance.
