EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES.
PROPOSED BIVOUAC. Captain Hellier Evans, has called a parade of the East Coast Mounted Rifles for to-morrow in full marching order with field kit, when it is intended to work out a scheme or attack and defence in the vicinity of Kaitaratahi. The Te Karaka troop, under Lieut. Poyliter, will act as defenders, and the Ma kauri troop (1/eut. Hamilton), will attack. o'ipt. Evans and Sqdn.-Sorgt.-Majo’r Spragg will act as umpires. After the completion of this manoeuvre the squadron will proceed to one of Mr It. Scott’s paddocks at the Willows, and will there bivouac for the night. The bivouac will be laid out and conducted on actual service conditions; the horses will be picketed and the men will sleep in the open, tents being too cumbersome to carry. Each man lias a waterproof sheet issued to him and will also have a blanket and overcoat. Rations for two meals are ordered to be carried, the other meals being supplied in the bivouac by Qm.-Sergt. Fairlie and his assistants. On Sunday morning the squadron will be instructed in squadron drill, etc., and the troops will return to their respective headquarters in the afternoon. ’ Major Sandtmann, adjutant of the regiment, SurgeonCapt. Scott, the squadron’s medical officer, and Yet. Capt. Burton, of the veterinary rorjxs, have signified their intention of being present.
