CONTROL OF ATHLETICS AND CYCLING. ["Per Press Association.l CHRISTCHURCH, Oct, 14. A conference between representatives of the New Zealand Athletic Union and the League of New Zealand Wheelmen was held last- evening, at which reciprocal arrangements regarding the control of sports meetings were decided upon. Details were discussed at a meeting to-day. Subsequently the executive of the Athletic Union mot, and decided to relinquish control of the piping and dancing events, and affiliated centres will he asked to endorse this action forthwith. It is hoped this action will result in more satisfactory relations being established between the Caledonian Society and the Union. The annual meeting and championships of the Union will bo held at Greymouth in March next. The main features of the basis of agreement between the New Zealand Athletic Union and the League of New Zealand Wheelmen arrived at by representatives of those bodies in conference are: The vesting of the control of cycling in the League and or athletics in the Union, each body to issue permits to bodies affiliated who desire to include cycling or athletic events in their sports programmes, and the maintenance. upholding and endorsements of suspensions and disqualifications of one body by the other. The Union recommends clubs and affiliated centres to approve of the agreement for twelve months, hut it is to be in operation till the Wanganui and Southland Caledonian societies become affiliated to the Union.
