LEVIN, October 14. The weather was fine for the second day of the Otaki Maori races. There was a good attendance. Eight bookmakers °were licensed, and the totalisator investments amounted to £4332. A protest against St. Lavender, who finished second, for crossing and interfering with Hatley was upheld. The rider of St, Lavender was disqualified for one month. Won easily by two lengths. The second day of the Napier Park Racing Club’s spring meeting to-day was well attended, the weather being beautifully fine. All the jockeys wore crape as a mark of respect to the memory of Jack O’Connell, who died last night as the result of a fall in one of the hurdle races yesterday. The sum of £4629 was passed through the totalisator, or £1437 less than on the second day last year. The deficiency for the meeting,, as compared with 1008, was £2050. 'The Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting was concluded to-day in fine weather The attendance was not large. Nine bookmakers were licensed, and tlie totalisator investments amounted to £4151, an increase of £165 on last year. The following are the results:—
