HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

AIONTHLY AIEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held in the County Offices last evening. Present: Messrs J. AV. Bright (chairman), G. Darton, E. H. Mann, A. F. Alatthews, T. Holden, and Hon. Captain Tucker. Dr. AVilson was also in attendance. The Gisborne Gas Company wrote stating that they had no doubt as to the accuracy of their amount. Tho manager of the Gas Company offered to settle the account for £l6 cash.— It was decided to settle the account for this amount. The Town Clerk wrote stating that tho. Borough Overseer was having the bad parts of Roebuck Road attended to. The Auditor-General forwarded a statement re auditing the Hospital accounts. The Treasurer’s report was received and adopted, as follows: —Receipts, £516 4s 4d; expenditure £541 Is. Accounts for payment, £225 9s 3d; overdraft £24 16s Bd.

The report as to patients was received as follows: Remaining from last month 33, admitted since 31, died 1, discharged 18; remaining at date, 45. Air. G. Darton, for the \ r isiting Committee, reported that everything was going on satisfactorily. He thought they should call for tenders for asphalting all the back parts of the premises, and moved in that direction. It was decided to leave the matter to the incoming committee to make specifications and call for tenders, to be in before next month.

Air. Bright reported that Air. J. R. Ingram, chairman of the Christchurch Hospital Board, had been in Gisborne during the month, had visited the hospital, and expressed himself as srirprised at the- up-to-dateness of the institution.

The secretary was instructed to make inquiries as to the installation of a destructor for bandages, etc., at< the hospital, the cost not to exceed £lO. The Chairman proposed the following resolution—“ That the Trustees place on record their appreciation of the willing assistance given by all those ladies and gentlemen who aided in making the hospital social so great a success, and beg to tender their heartiest thanks to all those who aided with tlieir services, including the bands, or who gave donations- of money or provisions. Also that the secretary be instructed to advertise the same in both papers.” The Hon. Captain Tucker seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously.

On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by the Hon. "Captain Tucker, it was decided to increase the hospital fees from 4s to 7s per day for Eeamen and non-residents.

It was decided to write to the Hon. ns. Carroll and Mr. W. D. S. MacDonald. M.P., drawing their attention to the fact- that- section 54 of the 'Workers’ Comuensation Act would not allow any oortion of the compensation to he attached for any purpose. It was thought that in sonie cases the Magistrate should hare power to order the attachment of a- certain portion for hospital fees.

Considerable discussion took place over the water appliances for fire fighting at the hospital, and on the motion of Air. Alatthews, seconded by Air. Holden, it was decided to apply to the borough for the services of Air. Hay to report on a better system. Dr. Wilson reported that 'the size of the doors at the hospital were inconvenient for moving patients and beds. He added that something should be done to instruct the nurses in fire drill and the rapid removal of the patients.

The members present all thought that something should be done to make provision for accident, and on the motion of Air. Matthews it was decided that the chairman should meet Air. J. Townley, superintendent of the Fire Brigade, and Air. Hay, borough turncock, to see if something could not be done to ensure better facilities for fire fighting, and for some method of in' structing the nurses.
