FATAL FIRE AT CLIVE

MAN BURNED TO DEATH

1 Pick Press Association.] NAPIER, Oct. 16. A fatal fire occurred tat Clive early this morning, the victim being Patrick Keys, unmarried, aged about 34. Deceased’s mother was awakened by hearing her son call out, and though she tried to reach has room, she was beaten back by the flames. Help was summoned, but the room by this time was a seething mass of flame, and rescue was hopeless. Nearly in the house was destroyed. Mrs. Keys was severely scorched. The trunk of Patrick Keys’ body was discovered amongst the debris of the fire. An inquest was held at Vest Clive to-day touching the death of Patrick Iveys, wool-classer, aged about _34 years, a native of County Limerick, Ireland. The Coroner returned a verdict that the deceased met his death Through being accidentally burned in a fire which destroyed a house at Riverside occupied by his mother, Bridget Keys, there being no evidence disclosing the origin of the fire. It appeared from the evidence that the deceased and a brother had a section at Waimarama, and were on a visit to Ciive, staying with their mother. The deceased had two or three drinks during the day, but was perfectly sober when he retired for the night.
