The threatening weather of the morn- • and early afternoon finally resolved into a continuous downpour. The wicket became too bad, and the day’s play was therefore abandoned about an hour after starting. CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. CHRISTCHURCH, October 16. Heavy rain over-night, with a drying wind this morning, left the wickets all in favor of the bowlers, and the sides that had runs oh the sheet were considered to have been fortunate. The players in file Linwood-West Christchurch match wore crape bands on their arms as a mark of respect t-o the late Captain W. 0. Pavitt, who was a member of the former team, and had been not out on the previous Saturday. West Christchurch, who were in a minority on the first innings, scored a sensational win against Linwood just on the call of time, getting a 3point victory. Sydenham won against St. Albans after a most exciting finish whilst East Christchurch easily' maintained their position against Riccarton. The scores were as follows:—West Christchurch, first innings 53, second innings 6 wickets for 186 ; Linwood, first innings 142, - second innings 96. St. Albans, first innings 148, second innings 68; Sydenham, first innings 171. East Christchurch,. first innings 221, second innings 5 wickets for 105; Riccarton, first innings 161.
