POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION
The usual weekly meeting of tlie Management Committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association was held last evening in the Alhambra Club rooms, Mr. J. B. Hunt presiding. Correspondence was received from Messrs W. D. Lysnar, AV. Ensor AV. Pettie, C. Hansen .(Motu), J. R. Kirk, and AV. Lissant Clayton accepting positions on. the Executive of the Association. and enclosing donations to the funds, b , , > Mr. Elisor, of Pulia, offered to donate a , trophy to the player who hit the greatest number of sixers in cup competitionl matches, liis object being, he explained, to give the men who go in low down on the batting list a chance of’ winning a trophy.—The offer was accepted with thanks. Letters were received from the lokomaru, Motu, Itakauroa, and Waikohu Clubs with reference to the Town v. Country match on October oGth (the Saturday after the Show).—lt was decided to convene a meeting of the •country players .in town on Thursday, 28th iiist., at 10 a.m., a.t the Alhambra Club rooms, and to leave the final selection of the country eleven to the -country representatives. AVhen the appointment of a selection committee for representative teams was decided upon, Mr. Golding moved nnd Mr. AVhiteley seconded that the committee consist of five members. _ln the discussion which ensued, the majority of the delegates voiced the opinion that the time had arrived when the Association should appoint one man to select representative teams. Mr. McMahon moved, and Mr. Barker seconded, an amendment that the selection committee consist of one man. On being put to the meeting, the amendment was carried by seven votes to * Messrs AV. Gibson and R. G. Hallamore were proposed for the position of sole selector, and on a ballot being taken the former was elected. It was decided to postpone the. Thursday competition matches on the 28th (race day), but- to continue the junior competition on Saturday, 30th inst,. , ~. „ , The advisability of holding all-day matches on November 9th (King’s Birthday) was discussed, but it was eventually decided to hold consideration of the matter over until next Monday evening.
