THE EMPIRE MATCH
United Press Association— Copyright. (Received October 18, 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 18. The Empire match was commenced in fine weather, a stiffish wind at times bothering the competitors. The shorter ranges were disposed of to-day. The shooting was generally very even, though the Commonwealth team managed to head New Zealand at every range, finishing the first three ranges as follows: —Commonwealth 1122, New Zealand 1057. The following were the scores of the New Zealand team:
The only possible went to Howitt, the South Australian’s credit, at 500 yards. The longer ranges will be fired to-mor-row.
NEW ZEALANDERS WIN GORDON TROPHY.
(Received October 18, 10.30 p..m.) As a set-off to their leeway in the Empire match, the New Zealand team won the Gordon Highlanders’ trophy, securing 5 hits to South Australia’s 3, and Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria 2 each.
