INDUSTRIAL CONCILIATION.

ROTORUA HOTELS AND BOARD-ING-HOUSES.

[TEn P:;esß Association.] ROTORUA, October 18. The Conciliation Council sat in conference since midday on Friday last till 3 p.m. to-day, to hear the industrial dispute between the Auckland Hotel and Restaurant Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers and the Rotorua hotels and private hotels and hoardinghouse keepers. The hotel dispute only was considered, the assessors for the boarding-house keepers not being present. When the Council sat half-an-hour later, Mr. Knox, who appeared for the boarding-house keepers, declined to be bound by any agreement arrived at, and the boarding-house assessors refused to sign the documents intended for the Arbitration-Court. It was then agreed that the hotel agreement should be forwarded to the Clerk of Awards.. A long discussion ensiled regarding the conference in connection with the boarding-house keeper’s' dispute. The parties were unable to agree, and the Commissioner decided, under section 42 of the Act, to submit, the dispute to the Arbitration Court. He considered it waste of time to go into conference, as there was no prospect of the parties agreeing.
