LONDON, October 18. Mr Abel Smith and his tariff reform opponent agree, not to contest East Hertfordshire, in order to heal the breach in the constituency. A new tariff reform candidate will be found for the genera] election.
Lord Joicey’s opposition to the Budget has surprised the Liberals, whom he had generously supported f0r,.20 years. LONDON ELECTIONS BILL . (Received October 19, 9.45 p.m.) LONDON, October 19. In the House of Commons, the London Elections Bill has been read a third time. The Opposition protested that the Bill was an effort to disfranchise the electors in the 1 interests of the Liberal party. ' KEIR HARDIE THREATENS THE KING. Mr. Keir Hardie, at Sunderland, expressed a hope that it was not true that the King was intervening in the Budget dispute. He added : “So long as the King remains outside party politics he can be tolerated. The moment the throne begins to interfere, the crown will follow the Peer’s coronet into the melting pot.”
