7 THURSDAY COMPETITION. ; The Thursday .competition was resum- • ed yesterday afternoon at Victoria Do--7-; main and Taruheru. Rain threatened 7c throughout the afternoon, but a high B wind kept it off. The recent heavy rain had rendered the turf wicket at Taruheru in fine order, and a capital wicket had been prepared by C. Whiteley. UNITED v. Y.M.C.A. With one wicket down for (39, W. Gibson and Austen resumed United’s second innings. Austen did not last Jong, but Gibson and Armstrong put the runs on at a good pace, and found the boundary frequently with forceful strokes. After these two had been disposed of, three further wickets 101 l for few runs, ami with 131 up for seven wickets the United innings was declared closed, leaving Y.M.C.A. 170 to get to win.’ Mills and Barker bowled unchanged throughout the afternoon, but might have been relieved by Kissling and Grant with advantage. Barker, Kissling, and Grant batted brightly in the second innings for Y.M.C.A., but none of the others stayed long, and the innings closed at 5 o’clock for 74, leaving United winners by 95 runs. Farrell, Armstrong, and Gibson secured tbe wickets for United, and each came out with good figures. The scores were as follows:

ALHAMBRA v. TE RAU. The match between Alhambra and Te Rau was continued on the Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon. Alhambra Avere 108 runs to the good with a full team to bat when play was resumed, J. Lang (5) and Olsen (7) being the batsmen. As Olsen was absent, Lang took Stitchbury in with him. The Avickets fell quickly, the only men to reach double figures being Lang (15) and Atkinson. (10). With eight wickets down for 62, the innings Avas declared • closed, leaving Te Rau 170 to get to win. H. Wack (20) and Seymour (14) batted well,' and gave their side a good start, but the rest of the team failed, and, with three men short, the innings closed for 46, leaving Alhambra victorious by 108 ruus. For Te Rau Monk and H. Wack bowled unchanged, and for Alhambra Babbs and Lang bowled best. The fielding of the Alhambra team Avas good, but Te Rau missed a few chances. It ■was decided to AvithdraAv the challenge already issued to Auckland, and to challenge Auckland for the week following the Neiv Year, prodded that Wellington then holds the shield. NEW ZEALAND CRICKET COUNCIL A meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council Avas held to-night; The balance-sheet shoAved a debit of £6B 18s Id. The proposed new rules were adopted, with small alterations. Regarding Plunket Shield rules, •notice of motion was given that no coach or person imported at the expense of any Association or Club should he eligible to play in any shield match until he had resided in the Dominion for two years continuously. A rule Avas also adopted whereby 60 per cent, of the profits of a challenge match should be retained by the local Association, 30 per cent, should be paid to the challenging Association, and 10 .per cent, to the Neiv Zealand Council.
