GISBORNE CLUB. Though the sides wer p gray yesterday the rain held off, and the weather was mild—A'ory good boivling weather. The green of the Gisborne Club Avas in very tolerable playing order, and the unofficial opening thereof—the official opening is to take place Avhen the new pavilion is finished—was. a decided success. The members of the Club mustered in strong’ force, and many visitors, including some of the members of the Turanganui Club, were present. Play Avas carried ,011 at half a dozen rinks, and some interesting contests resulted. The names of a dozen candidates for membership have been posted on the notice hoard of the club, which may be congratulated on having opened the season under most favorable auspices. The neAV pavilion, despite certain unavoidable delays Avhich liave occurred In connection with its erection, is making a good shoAving. and already indicates that AA'hen completed it will be a handsome and commodious structure. The Avails, floors, and roof of the structure are practically completed, the framework of the verandah and balcony is erected, and the contractors are hard at Avork on the various accessories which are to render the pavilion fit for occupation and use. It is hoped that in a month’s time the members of the Club may be availing themselves of its facilities. The folloAvino" Avere the scores at the various rinks yesterday: — Douglas. The matches for the season will begin with the handicap fours and the handicap singles, entries for which are to close on Saturday, October 30. TURANGANUI CLUB. A large assemblage of bowlers gathered on the Turanganui Club’s green yesterday afternoon, when a number of very enjoyaple games Avere played. A number of ladies Avere also present. Five rinks were occupied, in practice and match games. The green was in splendid order, running keen and true. During an internal in the play afternoon tea, AA'hich Avas much appreciated, Avas pro Added by Mrs. W. O. Skeet, who was assisted by Mrs. Wyllie and Misses Skeet Opportunity was also taken to'-fatlot for new members, and the follo wing Avere elected: Active—Messrs J,. Ponsford, Dan. Barry, W. Webb, J. Greig. W. Sandlant; honorary—Messrs' W. Pettie, G. Paisley, F. Harris and R. Robertson. The following are the results of the match games played during the .afternoon: — —Douglas Feathers.— . D. J: Barry and M. G. Nasmith junr (skip) 32 v. J. Somervell and M. A. Neill (skip) 10.—G. Edwards played as substitute for Barry, and H. Anderson acted similarly for Somervell. _ This was a runaway game for) the victors, Acho AA'ere 13 to nil on the 7th head, 25 to 8 on the 15th head; and finishing up with a margin of 22 points on the last head. W. EdAvards and J. D. Jeune (skip) 25 beat V. Hooper and E. Lewis (skip) 15. —A. Skillicorn played as substitute for W. Edwards. The Avinning. pair assumed the lead, hut their opponents recovered on the 10th head, with 7 to 6. The former pair again drew aAvay, and securing a six on the 20th head put the issue beyond doubt, Avinning by 10 points. —Challenge Walking Stick.— M. A. Neill (7) beat H. Anderson (3). —Neill Avas 4 to 3 on the 4th head, and won by obtaining a pair and a single. E. Lewis (6) beat 0. Morse (4). —The players Avere 3 all on the 4th head, and on the folloAving Morse obtained, a single AA'hile Lewis replied Avith a three on the sixth head. G. Edwards (7) beat V. Hooper (3). —Tlie score was 3 all on tlie 4th head, but EdAvards secured a 1 and a 3 on the last two heads.' • • • ...... P. E. Hallam (4) beat J. B. Leydon (2). —This proved the keenest game so far. Hallam put up four consecutive singles, 'while Leydon replied with two singles., R. Skeet (10) beat C. F. Lcavis (2). —• This'was a runaAA-ay Avin for Skeetwho Obtained two. 3’s and a 4 to his opponent’s two singles. The remaining matches in the first round of both, the above competitions are to be completed by to-morroAv afternoon or forfeited.
