TE ARAI SPRING MEETING
The weather was cloudy and dul]_ for the spring meeting of the Te Arai Racing Club yesterday,""but there Avas. a good attendance at the picturesque course, which Avas in excellent condition. The handieappers had performed their duties well, Avith the result that close finishes Avere the order of the day, particularly in the chief event, the Te Arai Cup, ivheTe the placed horses Avere all in a bunch. Mr. J. E. Daultpn, the. secretary, had all arrangements ivell in hand, and everyth jng Avas got off without a_ hitch. Three bookmakers were operating, but business Avas not brisk. A meeting of the steAvards was held and an inquiry made into the inconsistent running of a horse in the Puketapu Handicap, and the jockey explained that his foot slipped from the stirrup. Ho was cautioned, and the inquiry concluded. -The following were the results: — Maiden Scurry, 4 furlongs, minimum weight 9st—Kate (T. Mclntosh) 1, Detonator 2, Ka 3., Also started: Aeroplane and Polly. Won easily. Aeroplane was left at the post, and Polly tailed aAvav at the end. Flying Handicap, 6 furlongs.—Edna 10.2 (G'. Murray) 1, Togo 2, Miretta 3.
Only starters. Edna and Togo made a good race from Hie start till near the end, Avhen Edna pulled’away and won by about a length. Manutuke Stakes, 7 furlongs.—Catch ’em 9.8 and 131bs extra (A. Stevens) 1, OakeAvalk 2, Silence 3. Alse started: Watson and Snider. Cakewalk and Watson led from the start, then Catch ’em came up and passed Watson. At the bend Watson fell away, and Silence got to third place. A good “go” resulted betAveen Catch ’em .and Cakewalk. .• . Puketapu Handicap, 5 furlongs. Haybov 10.6 (M. Hennessy) 1, Edna 2, Kate 3. Also started: Miretta, Ivaitoa, and Detonator. Kaitoa was left, and t-h©-race was between the first two horses. After a close “go” Hayboy got first,' Kate .being several lengths behind, third. To Arai Cup, H .miles.—Togo 11.0 (M. Hennessy) 1. Kailcuri 11.0 (G. Murray) 2, CakeAva’.k 10.6 (Sweeney) ,3 Also started: Catch ’em. From a good start Catch ’em and Ivaikuri led to the ■judge’s box first round, then CakeAvalk came up, folloAved by Togo and Catch ’em dropped to the rear. The three placed horses came round the bend together, and at the Avinning post only a quarter of a length .separated the Avinner, the same distance being between the second and third, Avith Catch ’em several lengths,to the rear. President’s Handican 6 furlongs. Kaitoa 10.5 (SAveeney) 1, Hayboy- 2, Silence 3. Also started: Watson. Kaitoa led from the start, and Avon easily by so\'eral lengths, the third horse being about two lengths behind Hayboy. Forced Handicap, 1 mile.—lvaikuri 11.0 (G. Murray) 1, Kaitoa. 2, CakeAvalk 3. Also started: Catch, ’em and Hevbov. Kaitoa led till near the finish when Ivaikuri challenged, and Avon by half a length. Cakewalk a couple of lengths aAvay third.

AN WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. To-day the Wellington Racing Club steAvards held an inquiry into complaints regarding the conduct of a jockey at Trentham yesterday. The stewards decided not to publish the result of the investigation. OAMARU RACES. ,OAMARU, Oct. 21. The second day of the North Otago Jockey Club’s meeting Avas favored Avith tine AA'eather and a_ better attendance than on the first day.
