MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was not a large attendance at the weekly stock sales at Matawhero yesterday. There were few buyers present, owing to the fact that sheepowners are busy just now with shearing operations. SHEEP. Altogether about 3200 sheep werq yarded. Though most of the pens contained tempting lines, competition was~ slack, and many,.,were passed in as the reserves were not reached. A fine line of 30 prime wethers fetched the top price for the day at 15s 6d. A fine even lot of 423 shorn.wethers from Mr. A. R. Watson’s Waimata station fetched 10s 9d. Store sheep were in indifferent demand, and prices realised ranged from 6s for 25 ewes and 8 lambs to 12s for a line of 80 hoggets._ The following were the principal prices realised^7- fat. ewes (in the wool) 11s 6d,25 fat ewes "(shorn) 8s Id, 4 fat hoggets (in .wool) 10s 6d, 6 store ewes 7s, 205 hoggets (in wool) 7s lid, 29 fat hoggets (in wool) 11s, 49 dry ewes 10s sd, 85 hoggets 9s lid, 52 ewes and 51 lambs 9s, 176 hoggets (in woo!) Bs, -83 hoggets 8s lOd, 59 hoggets (in wool) 11s 7d, 23 dry ewes 7s, 37 4-tooth ewes 9s 7d, 121 hoggets (heavy in wool) 12s 3d. CATTLE. Four hundred and twenty-seven yarded, but the demand was slack. A pen of 6. prime bullocks was keenly competed for, and ran up to £7 3s 6d. Other lines sold under the hammer were: 2 fat bullocks £5 13s, 1 cow (just calved) £3, 6 beef cows £4, 24 heifers £2 ss, 42 yearlings £1 7s 6d, 3 bullocks (light weights) £5 13s, 1 cow £5 7s 6d, 3 cows £4 7s 6d, 6 cows £4. HORSES. About 40 horses were offered, but there was little- competition, and the majority failed to bring reserves. Twelve useful light draughts, on account of Cooper’s Estate,' Puatae, made £6 12s 6d to £l3 ss; 9 hacks brought £2 10s to £6 10s. " ’ PIGS.

There was only a small number offering, and prices ranged from 19s 6d to 275.
