HOSPITAL SOCIAL.

MEETING OF .COMMITTEE. A well-attended meeting of the Hospital Social Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, Mr. C. F. Lewis presiding. A letter was received from Mr. A. •F. Wootton apologising for the nonattendance of his orchestra -at the. social, and explaining the cause.—The .letter iwas received, and the explanation accepted. Mr. M. Segedin, secretary, wrote apologising for being unable to be present. ' V* , The balance-sheet was presented, and adopted as follows :—Receipts, first night, doors £44 16s, tickets -£SO 10s 6d; children's night, doors .-£64 7s; total, £159 13s 6d; Ladies’ Committee collections £55 15s lOd, cloak-room £5 13s, collection box £2 Bs, materials" sold £8 12s 4d; gross total, £232 2s Bd. Expenditure, hall, cordials, advertising, labor, ana sundries, £49 19s; balance net profit £lB2 3s 8d ; Government subsidy bn the. above £2lB 12s 4d • total to accnre to the hospital, £4OO 16s.

The members all thought that the result was very gratifying, and showed that the public were in sympathy with the Hospital Trustees. It was decided to make a donation of £5 5s to each of the bands. The secretary was, also instructed to write thanking them for their assistance. Votes of-thanks were passed as follow's: To the ladies who assisted on the committee and in other ways ;to the gentlemen who assisted on the committee: to the secretaries. Messrs M. Segedin, J. It. Little, and T. G. Lawless ; to the Friendly Societies, and the press; and to all others who in any way assisted. Mr. F. J. Lysnar, a member of the Hospital Trustees, who wa£ present at the. meeting,, conveyed the coirdial thanks of the Trustees to the committee for the enthusiastic manner in which they; had gone into the social and made it such'a success. _ The meeting closed ■ with a vote of thanks to the chairman. ;
