ART AND CURIO EXHIBITION.

■'— • - MEETING OF COMMITTEEMEN. A meeting of members of the different committees in connection with the Gisborne City Band's Art and Curio Exhibition, was held in the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Mr. .J. W. J. Preston, who has accepted the position of organiser, presided, and 10 members were present. Mr. J. 11. Kirk wrote apologising for his absence, and stating he had seen the Maoris, who had promised to give assistance with curios. It was agreed that the Exhibition should be open for four nights, with possibly a matinee, commencing on December Bth. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs F. Wilkinson, G. Lapidge, and J. W. J. Preston was appointed to make the arrangements for securing, the Garrison Hall. The election of chairmen and conveners of the different committees took place as follows:—Side Shows, Mr. F. ,Lowndes; Art Union, Mr. G. Wildish; Advertising, Mr. W. Miller; Financial, Mr. J- R. Kirk; Industrial and Space, Mr. J. Townley; Arrangement for Curios, Mr. G. Miller; Art and Curio, Mr. F. S. Malcolm. It was decided that the different chairmen should form an Executive Committee, and should meet, together with the joint secretaries, in the Bandroom every Thursday evening, at 9 o’clock. The general committees to meet prior to this hour. ... : The procuring of curios and pictures for the art gallery was discussed, and it was decided to advertise for the loan of these, and also to 'canvas. ■_ All curios lent to the committee will be insured, and receipts given to the lenders. Messrs Wildish, Cowell, and Crawford were appointed a sub-committee to purchase several pictures for the chief prizes in the art union. A vote of, thanks to the chairman concluded the business.
