CHRISTCHURCH ‘‘SPECTATOR ' OFFICE DAMAGED. Cl’kh Press Association.l OKRISTCHURGxI, October 26. A fire occurred in the. “Spectator newspaper office at 10 o’clock to-day, but not a great deal of damage was done, the brigade coping effectually with the fire. The block in which the building is situated is in the centre- of the city, facing Cathedral Square. All the buildings are of wood, and had the fire got a good hold, the block would have been swept, and much damage done to the buildings adjoining. In the “Spectator’s” fire a linotj'pe machine was destroyed. The cause of the fire wasi an explosion of benzino. Fisher, a linotype operator was thrown from his seat and severely injured The foreman printer was enveloped m flames, his face and head being badly burned. He was removed to the hospital. Tlip. building was insured in the Nbrwicfi Union office for £3OO. and the contents for £7OO in the Stand.ud office, the latter aifiount being the value of the linotype.
