THE IRISH LAND BILL! 'United Press Association— LONDON, Oct. 26. The House of Lords has passed the Irish Land Bill. Lord Crewe;, declared that after the amendments introduced by the House of Lords, the Bill .was no longer'a final solution of the land question, as the Government had intended it to be. The safeguards introduced would cause the Irish to demand further amendments. Lord Lansdowne said the Government must recollect that the House of Lords were asked to put into shape a measure containing an extraordinary •collection of ill-thought-out and 'imper-fectly-discussed proposals, based upon an attempt to include anything the Nationalists suggested. . Sir J. Eldon Gorst, as a Liberal, opposes Mr Harold Gox at Preston at the .general election. THE FINANCE BILL. LONDON, Oct. 26. In the .House of Commons, in order to cast ridicule on the Finance Bill, the Opposition endeavored to raise a discussion at the report stage upon the thirteen kinds of land values mentioned in the measure for the guidance of Government valuers. DEVELOPMENT BILL PASSED BY THE LORDS. (Received October 28, 12.1 a.m.) ' LONDON, October 27. The House of Lords has read the Development Bill a third time, and adjourned to November Bth. MR. BALFOUR ON MR. URE’S MISSTATEMENTS. Mr. Balfour, at a meeting of the Conservatives’ Union, denounced Mr. lire’s remark about the Unionist intention to abolish old age pensions as false and calculated. He incidentally spoke of standing on the eve of an electoral contest.
