THE TURF.
POVERTY RAY TURF CLUB. The spring meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club will open on the Club’s coruse, at Makaraka, to-day. _ Satisfactory entries have been received for the eight events on the programme. The course is in capital order, and a good day.’s racing may safely be anticipated.* The first event, the Trial Handicap, is timed to start at 12.45 p.m., and the last, the First Hack Flat Handicap, at or about 5.30 pan. Trains are to leave Gisborne for Makaraka at noon, 1 pan., and 5.25 p.m., and are due to leave Makaralra for town at 11.11 a.m., 12.15 p.m.,1.25 p.m., and 5.40 p.m A train will leave Makaraka for country stations at 5.40 p.m. A new and up-to-date judge s box and 14 additional loose boxes have been constructed on the course.
